How to Hire a Wedding Cake Designer

Step 1 Look through the classifieds or yellow pages for cake designers in your area. You can also search online to find designers and bakers.

Step 2 Call designers that spark your interest and set up an interview. Tell them over the phone what kind of a cake you're looking for, and ask them some basic questions to determine their credentials.

Step 3 Set up your interviews and schedule them so you can fit everyone in. In most cases, you should be able to go to the designer's office to properly conduct an interview.

Step 4 Go to your different interviews. First give the designer a detailed description of what you've determined you want so far, and see what sort of feedback they give you.

Step 5 Ask the designer questions about their designing process: what sorts of things they like to put into a cake, how long it typically takes them, how much experience they have, etc. This would be a good time to ask about ingredients if you have any food allergies.

Step 6 Ask to see pictures of cakes that they've designed before. This will give you a better idea of their work, and might give you some ideas of what you want.

Step 7 After you've finished with all your interviews, sit down with your fiancé and decide which designer sounds the most suitable for building your cake. Take into account what sort of ideas they had for your cake and how experienced they are.

Sarah from Foodbridge, Miriam from Israeli Kitchen, and I have just launched a new online culinary magazine called Flavors of Israel.  The magazine will showcase Israel’s amazing culinary diversity through interviews, restaurant reviews, and travels to interesting culinary sites around the country. I am very excited about this new venture with two other enthusiastic Israeli [...]

Pisto is the Spanish version of ratatouille. There are many versions of this dish, and this vegetable stew is sometimes used as a filling for empanadas. I am not usually a fan of ratatouille because I find that most restaurants or people cook the dish to death and the vegetables just end up a slimy [...]
