How to Save the Top Layer of Your Wedding Cake

Step 1 Plan for a sealed plastic container to be at the cake cutting. The most important part of keeping the cake from drying up is sealing it from outside air and sealing the moisture in.

Step 2 Enlist a friend or family member to be in charge of saving the cake. When the cake cutting begins, have them secure the top tier and place it in the plastic container.

Step 3 Set the cake set aside for the remainder of the ceremony. If you can, you should store it in some kind of refrigeration unit.

Step 4 Take the cake home and freeze it for the year.

This can only mean one thing: It's time for spring cleaning. (OK, it's probably past time, since the dust is getting organized. But I like to wait until it's actually close to spring to get started.)

My favorite thing about this list is that it has something for every type of spring weather. If it's balmy, you can do these backyard crafts. If it's pouring, you can stay in and color.

Two words: Shepherd's pie. I could eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course then I'd be too round and sleepy to chase any sheep. I'm betting the shepherds ate it sparingly.
